Traditional Wrestling Carnival at Pachnangal-Khushhalpur

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Oct.16 :  The annual Chhinjh Mela (traditional wrestling fair) at village Pachnangal-Khushhalpur in Hoshiarpur district concluded with great pomp and enthusiasm. Organized with the collaboration of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), local residents, and social organizations, this time-honored sporting festival once again celebrated Punjab’s rich wrestling heritage. The event was coordinated by wrestler Pankaj Dass and social worker Sanjeev Kumar Pachnangal.
#200 Renowned Wrestlers Showcase Strength and Skill Nearly 200 reputed wrestlers from across Punjab participated in the tournament.
# The prime bout — the Patka Kushti — featured Mirza Iran and Gaurav Machhiwara in a gripping contest. After a tense, skillful display, Mirza Iran emerged victorious on points, earning a Bullet motorcycle, a ceremonial turban, and a cash prize.
#Thrilling Second Bout Ends
in a TieThe second featured match between Gani Malerkotla and Teerath Phagwara ended in a tie after an evenly fought contest. Spectators cheered the wrestlers’ spirit, determination, and discipline, adding to the festive atmosphere.
#Dignitaries Grace the Event
The event was graced by several notable guests. Former Cabinet Minister Sohan Singh Thandal attended as the chief guest, while Avtar Singh Dandia, District President of the BJP Kisan Wing, joined as a special guest. Members of the village panchayat, social groups, and sports enthusiasts turned out in large numbers to witness the celebrations.
##Police Ensure Smooth Security Arrangements
The security arrangements were efficiently managed by ASI Sukhwinder Singh, in charge of the local police post, along with his team. The fair maintained exemplary discipline throughout the day amid a vibrant and joyous crowd.
#Festivities End with Promise to Return Next YearAs the evening drew to a close around 8 p.m., the fair concluded on a warm note, with spectators and participants parting with fond memories and a cheerful promise to reunite next year. Among those present were Sanjeev Kumar Pachnangal, Pankaj Dass, Sarpanch Kulwinder Singh, Vipin Kumar, Pallvinder Kumar, Satinder Thoana, Roshan Lal Tohana, and Sabi Banga, along with hundreds of enthusiastic villagers and visitors.
