BSP Condemns Centre’s Dissolution

by

Hoshiarpur/ Nov 2/Daljeet Ajnoha – The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has sharply criticized the Central government’s decision to dissolve the 59-year-old Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, calling it a direct assault on Punjab’s constitutional and historical rights.Addressing a press conference, BSP Punjab president and Chandigarh in-charge Dr. Avtar Singh Karimpuri, a former Rajya Sabha member, described the move as “an undemocratic step aimed at weakening Punjab’s authority over its own institutions.” He remarked that the decision came ironically on the very day the state was celebrating Punjab Day, which he termed “a calculated attempt to erode the state’s autonomy.”Dr. Karimpuri alleged that the dissolution of the key decision-making bodies of the university was part of a deliberate design to detach Panjab University from the state. He said the BSP would never accept such a move and demanded an immediate reversal of the order and restoration of elections to the Senate and Syndicate.“The Senate and Syndicate embody the very essence of the university’s democratic governance. Their dissolution not only undermines academic and administrative independence but also strikes at the roots of democracy itself,” he asserted.Vowing to intensify the party’s resistance if the Centre fails to reconsider its decision, Dr. Karimpuri announced that the BSP would launch a stronger statewide campaign to safeguard Punjab’s rights. He also called upon all educational and political organizations in the state to unite in defense of Panjab University’s autonomy.Appealing to the public to join the second phase of the “Save Punjab” campaign, Dr. Karimpuri urged people to stand against what he described as the Centre’s “anti-Punjab and anti-democratic actions.”The press meet was attended by senior BSP leaders, including Maninder Sherpuri and Sukhdev Bitta (Punjab Secretaries), Daljit Rai (District President), Advocate Dharminder Dadra (District General Secretary), Advocate Palwinder Mana (Chabbewal In-Charge), Madan Singh Bais (Hoshiarpur In-Charge), Yash Bhatti (Chabbewal President), and Surjit Mehmi (Hoshiarpur President).
