Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Jan.13 : Under the provisions of the Punjab State Language Act 1967 and the State Language (Amendment) Act 2008, all official work in the Punjab secretariat, government/semi-government departments, boards, corporations, and educational institutions must be conducted entirely in Punjabi. The Punjab government periodically issues directives to enforce the use of Punjabi in office proceedings.In a detailed discussion on the matter, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain directed employees and officers in all government/semi-government departments, boards, corporations, and educational institutions across the district to make Punjabi—the state’s official language—mandatory for all office work. She also issued strict instructions that departmental websites be developed in both English and Punjabi.Jaspreet Kaur, in-charge of the District Language Office Hoshiarpur, and research officer Dr. Jaswant Rai provided further details, emphasizing that Punjabi is our mother tongue and an exceedingly rich language. Enriched by the writings of Gurus, saints, poets, and litterateurs, it deserves pride. “We must cultivate a mindset where speaking, reading, and writing in Punjabi fills us with pride,” they added.
