Basant Panchami to Be Celebrated

Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/Jan.22 : This year, Basant Panchami will be celebrated across Punjab with a strong message of safety and social responsibility, urging people to completely avoid the use of Chinese (China) dor and nylon kite strings, which have proved to be extremely dangerous and fatal.
Eminent educationist and social reformer Sanjeev Kumar stated that Chinese and nylon kite strings are not easily cut, often causing severe injuries to pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, birds, and even leading to loss of human lives. “Many innocent people have died after getting entangled in this deadly dor. Festivals should spread joy, not grief,” he emphasized while appealing to citizens to celebrate Basant Panchami in a traditional, eco-friendly, and safe manner.
The awareness message was issued jointly with Save Shivalik Save Mother Earth NGO from Village Bodal. The NGO’s President Gurukripal Singh Badal said the organization has consistently raised social and environmental issues, and the campaign against Chinese dor is a major awareness movement to protect human life, birds, and nature. He urged parents, youth, and kite sellers to act responsibly and refuse the sale or use of banned strings.
Supporting the initiative, Ashika Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Hoshiarpur, reiterated that the use of Chinese or nylon dor is a punishable offence under law. She warned that anyone found possessing, selling, or using such string will face strict legal action. The district administration has already appealed to the public to cooperate fully and ensure a safe Basant Panchami for all.
The speakers collectively appealed to citizens to support the administration’s efforts and make this festival accident-free by choosing safe cotton threads and responsible celebration.

The program concluded with a collective pledge to say no to Chinese dor, protect lives, safeguard birds, and celebrate Basant Panchami in harmony with society and nature.
