Human Rights Commission Punjab Working

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Feb.12 : Jitender Singh Shunty, Member, Punjab Human Rights Commission, said that the Human Rights Commission is committed to safeguarding the basic human rights of the people of Punjab and is working day and night to ensure justice and dignity for all.
While interacting with renowned educationist and social worker Sanjiv Kumar, Shunty emphasized that the Commission remains vigilant in protecting citizens from any form of exploitation or injustice, especially in sensitive matters related to healthcare and public services.
He made it clear that all hospitals must have a proper mortuary facility and ambulance services as mandatory infrastructure. He further issued three important advisories to hospitals:
No hospital should withhold a dead body due to pending bills. In case of death, the body must be handed over to the family even if payment is pending.
No patient should be kept as a “bandhak” (detained) in the hospital due to non-payment of bills.
Every cremation ground (Shamshan Ghat) must display a board clearly stating that if a deceased person belongs to a poor family unable to afford funeral expenses, the cremation will be conducted free of cost.
Shunty stated that dignity in life and dignity after death are fundamental human rights, and strict compliance with these advisories will be ensured across Punjab.
He appealed to the public to approach the Punjab Human Rights Commission in case of any violation of their basic rights, assuring that the Commission stands firmly with the people.
