Hoshiarpur/ Mar 5/Daljeet Ajnoha : Under the directions of Punjab Health Department and Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Mandeep Kamal, a seminar on World Women’s Day was jointly organised by the District De-addiction Rehabilitation Centre, Hoshiarpur, and the Women’s Cell of G.G.S.D. College, Haryana. The event was presided over by college principal Rajiv Kumar, in-charge of the women’s wing, with proceedings conducted by Hem Lata, Dr. Shuchi Sharma, Sukhwindar Kaur, and anchor Dr. Harvinder Kaur.Deputy Medical Commissioner and Member Secretary of the District De-addiction Rehabilitation Centre, Dr. Swati Shimar, was the chief guest.Addressing the gathering, Dr. Swati emphasised that men and women are equal, but God has made women mentally and emotionally stronger than men. She urged the youth to stay away from drugs and advised children facing any worries or problems to seek counselling via the Tele-MANAS helpline.Counsellor Sandeep Kumari Kaushal noted that International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8, and in India, it is observed as the birth anniversary of Bharat Kokila Sarojini Naidu. She provided detailed information on the Tele-MANAS app and helplines 14416 and 1800-891-4416 for counselling services. Students were motivated to remain drug-free.Tahreen Basra from the Mental Health Fellowship elaborated on Punjab government’s anti-drug mission and ongoing de-addiction campaigns. Madam Shiva highlighted the state government’s Ayushman Bharat 10-lakh health insurance scheme.A poster-making competition for students was also held, with Manjot Kaur securing first place, Tanvir Kaur second, and Paranjul third.Others present included Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Counsellor Prashant Adia, Counsellor Sandeep Kumari from the District De-addiction Rehabilitation Centre, and several more.
