Party chief meeting boosts SAD

Kapurthala/Daljeet Ajnoha/May 9 : After attending a meeting of constituency in-charges and district presidents chaired by Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in Chandigarh on Friday, Dharminder Kumar Tony, state general secretary of the party’s trade wing, said preparations have begun to strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming elections.
Tony, along with his associates, participated in the meeting and later held a detailed discussion with Badal about SAD’s activities and ongoing work in the Phagwara constituency. Badal reportedly directed Tony to intensify efforts to connect more people with the party, take the party’s policies and the work done during the SAD government to every household, form committees at the ward level, and strongly raise public issues before the administration. He said the core objective of the Akali Dal is service and that the party will be the voice of the poor and the needy.
Tony said workers from the circle level to the booth level are fully committed to strengthening the party, and that SAD is steadily gaining ground in the Phagwara segment. Speaking to reporters in Phagwara after the meeting, he said Punjab can be saved only if people bring the Akali Dal back to power. He described SAD as the only party that supports development in both villages and cities, and said the roads and bridges built during the Akali Dal’s tenure were unmatched.
He added that Punjab’s people now trust Sukhbir Singh Badal, calling SAD a clean regional party that has always fought for the rights of the state. Tony alleged that several political forces have tried to weaken the party over the years, but said time has proven that people-oriented politics cannot be suppressed for long.
Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party government, Tony alleged that law and order have deteriorated, gangster culture has grown, and the common citizen feels unsafe. He said the government has limited itself to advertisements and hollow claims while development has stalled on the ground. Citing issues in Phagwara, he said farmers are struggling to get crop compensation and no new employment opportunities have been created for the youth.
Tony expressed confidence that SAD would return to power with a strong mandate in the 2027 Assembly elections, saying people are tired of Congress and AAP and now want an experienced government with a clear roadmap for Punjab’s development.
