Vastu Makes a Home Shine

Internationally renowned Vastu expert and author Dr Bhupendra Vastu Shastri says that a home built according to Vastu principles can transform the fortunes of its occupants much like a philosopher’s stone turns iron into gold. According to Dr Bhupendra, a residence with correct Vastu generates positive energy that benefits residents physically, mentally, socially and economically.
Speaking on the essentials of Vastu-compliant construction, he advised that every element — from the shape of the plot to colour choices — be planned carefully and aligned with directional principles. “A home designed according to basic Vastu tenets will shine and become as valuable as gold,” he said.
Dr Bhupendra explained that the 45 deities represented in the Vastu Purusha Mandala, the five elements, and their correct arrangement must guide construction. He recommended that the land slope should face north, east or the northeast (Ishan) direction, and that underground water sources be located in the Ishan corner. The east should be kept relatively open, light and airy, while the south should be heavier and taller in layout. Fire-related activities, including the kitchen, should be placed in the Agneya (southeast) corner, and the west should be less open than the east.
He also emphasised that main entrances must conform to Vastu and should not be located at any corner of the house. “If these guidelines are followed while constructing a building, its occupants are likely to enjoy a happy and prosperous life,” Dr Bhupendra added.
