Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha/July 30 : Former Member of Parliament and long‑time member of the Hoshiarpur Bar Association, Mr. Avinash Rai Khanna, visited the hunger strike being staged today against the Legal Aid Defence Council and handed over a memorandum on behalf of the legal community. Mr. Khanna met with participating lawyers, listened to their grievances and held detailed discussions with them.
Speaking at the site, Mr. Khanna said he has been in continuous contact with Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal. He added that the minister assured him as recently as last evening that he would speak with the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice Suryakant, and would seek an early resolution of the matter.
Lawyers of the Bar Association stated they are fully prepared to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on August 7; they warned that, if the government does not meet the lawyers’ demands, they will escalate their agitation.
Present at the event were Advocate Shamsher Singh Bhardwaj, Lavkesh Ohri, former President Ram Prakash Dheer, Navjinder Bedi, Sukhwinder Singh Kotli, Gurpreet Kaur, Preeti Jasal, Rakesh Marwah, Kamaljeet Saroa, Nirvair Sidhu, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Badhan and other members of the bar.
