Hoshiarpur/ August 6/Daljeet Ajnoha : Dr. Gurjeet Singh Dhillon, Vice Principal of CKD Institute of Management and Technology, Amritsar, has emphasized that in today’s rapidly evolving digital era, relying solely on passwords is no longer sufficient to protect personal and professional data. He stated that Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) has become one of the most effective and essential tools for safeguarding digital identities and online accounts.
Highlighting India’s rapid digital transformation, Dr. Dhillon said that the country has witnessed an unprecedented rise in internet usage, digital payments, online banking, and e-governance services. However, this progress has also been accompanied by a sharp increase in cybercrimes, including phishing attacks, UPI frauds, AI-powered scams, identity theft, fake videos, and social media hacking.
He explained that Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to verify their identity through a second authentication method—such as a One-Time Password (OTP), an Authenticator App, a fingerprint, or Face ID—in addition to their password. Even if a cybercriminal obtains a user’s password, access to the account remains blocked without the second verification factor.
Dr. Dhillon urged citizens to enable 2FA on all critical digital platforms, including Gmail, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, banking applications, UPI services, and institutional portals. He noted that the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence by cybercriminals has made attacks more sophisticated, while threats such as public Wi-Fi hacking, SIM swap fraud, QR code scams, and password leaks continue to put users at risk.
He further advised users to adopt Authenticator Apps combined with biometric authentication as one of the safest methods available today. According to him, this significantly enhances protection against unauthorized access and helps secure sensitive personal and financial information.
Addressing educational institutions and businesses, Dr. Dhillon recommended making Two-Factor Authentication mandatory for faculty email accounts, student portals, enterprise systems, and official communication platforms to strengthen cybersecurity and ensure compliance with modern data protection standards.
Dr. Dhillon also encouraged people to educate their family members, especially senior citizens, about digital safety practices, as they are often targeted by online fraudsters.
Concluding his message, he said, “Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it is a responsibility for every digital citizen. Enabling Two-Factor Authentication takes only a couple of minutes, but it can protect your finances, personal information, and peace of mind from cyber threats.”
