From 66 KV Underground Cable to Overhaul of Schools & Hospitals, Historic Development Took Place During Congress Tenure: Arora
Hoshiarpur/ Oct, 25/Daljeet Ajnoha : A special Interaction Session was organized in Hoshiarpur today, bringing together journalists, media professionals, and social media influencers. During the interaction, former Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora presented a comprehensive development report card of the work undertaken in Hoshiarpur during his tenure. Thanking the media fraternity, Arora emphasized that public service demands complete transparency and accountability.
Arora highlighted that public welfare remained his core focus. Key infrastructure and public amenities delivered during his tenure include citywide CCTV surveillance, modern community centers, open-air gyms, cycle tracks, a multipurpose sports complex, bus queue shelters, two new fire tenders, and an oxygen plant at the Civil Hospital. Additionally, 38 e-rickshaws for women and six Volvo buses were arranged to strengthen local transport.
Emphasizing education and women empowerment, Arora shared that under ‘Project Samarpan’, Hoshiarpur became the first district in Punjab to provide dual desks for every primary school student. Rainwater harvesting systems were set up in 33 government schools, and a ₹7 crore project for a modern library and girls’ hostel was initiated at Government College, Hoshiarpur. To support women’s financial independence, 38 women received e-rickshaws through a ₹50 lakh government grant alongside free driving training, while a ‘One Stop Centre’ was set up at the Civil Hospital.
On industrial and urban development, Arora noted that Hoshiarpur became the first city in Punjab to launch a ₹22 crore 66 KV underground electrical cable and ring main system, benefiting over 56,000 electricity consumers. He also laid the foundation stone for an 8.27 km road connecting the Hi-Tech Cycle Valley to the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway, opening doors for over ₹1,500 crore in potential industrial investment and local employment.
Reflecting on COVID-19 relief efforts, Arora recalled how 200 volunteers delivering essential goods were provided safety helmets, and returning migrant workers received complete medical, lodging, and transport assistance.
