Hoshiarpur/ May 27/Daljeet Ajnoha : A one-day training program for Block Nodal Gender Champions was successfully conducted by the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Hoshiarpur, as part of the Gender Sensitization initiative under the “Chanan Rishman” program. This transformative program is a collaborative effort of the Government of Punjab, Breakthrough, and J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab) to promote gender-equitable education across schools in Punjab.
The training was led by District Resource Persons Dr. Ritu Kumra and Dr. Arjuna Katal of DIET Hoshiarpur. Addressing the participants, Dr. Ritu Kumra emphasized that the goal of this training was to prepare Block-Level Gender Champions, who will in turn train school teachers in implementing gender-sensitive practices in classrooms. She acknowledged the support and vision of Breakthrough, J-PAL, and the Punjab government in creating a Gender Transformative Education System (GTES) across the state.
The training covered crucial topics such as gender socialization, the role of institutions like family, education, culture, economy, media, and technology in shaping gender norms, and the responsibilities of gender nodal officers in supporting teachers with the Gender Equity Curriculum.
Mr. Manish, a representative from Breakthrough, delivered an informative session on utilizing digital platforms such as the Diksha App and Punjab Educare App to access curated content and resources for promoting gender sensitivity in classrooms.
The event was marked by interactive discussions, resource sharing, and a strong commitment to building a more inclusive and gender-equitable education system in Punjab. Participants expressed enthusiasm about taking their learning forward to the grassroots level and becoming catalysts of change in their respective blocks.
