Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/July 9 : A high-level meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain at the District Administrative Complex to review preparations for dealing with a possible flood situation. Officials from all concerned departments of the district participated in the meeting. The objective was to assess flood preparedness and make all departments aware of their roles and responsibilities.

DC Ashika Jain directed the Revenue Department to identify potential flood-affected areas and mark locations for relief and rescue centers. Duties of patwaris and kanungos should be pre-assigned so that there is no delay in relief and rescue operations during emergencies.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Municipal Corporation/Municipal Councils and the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to complete the cleaning of drains and sewers on a war footing. Lists of waterlogging-prone areas should be prepared, and special arrangements must be made to ensure smooth water drainage.

She directed the Health Department to deploy medical teams in areas likely to be affected by floods. Arrangements for essential medicines, chlorine tablets, and life-saving equipment should be ensured in advance.

The Power Corporation was asked to closely monitor transformers, wires, and poles in flood-prone areas and to relocate them to safer locations if necessary. A Rapid Response Team should be on standby to restore power supply immediately in emergency situations.

DC Jain also instructed the Police Department, Civil Defence, and Nehru Yuva Kendra to be ready to assist with crowd control, traffic management, and relief operations. The District Red Cross Society was directed to coordinate with voluntary organizations to ensure the availability of relief material.

The Drainage Department was instructed to regularly monitor water levels in rivers, canals, and dams. SDMs were asked to coordinate with NDRF and SDRF and ensure the availability of essential supplies and rescue boats.

Ashika Jain emphasized that alongside administrative preparedness, public cooperation is also essential. Panchayats, municipal bodies, and social organizations should work together to raise public awareness.

She directed all departments to finalize their preparedness plans and said that acting promptly in emergencies should be a top priority.
