Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/July 2 : Ahead of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s court appearance in Mohali, the police administration began placing Akali leaders under house arrest to prevent large gatherings during the hearing.
Several senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal were either put under house arrest or stopped en route to Mohali. This morning, the in-charge of Purhiran police post, along with police personnel, reached the residence of Jatinder Singh Lali Bajwa, Senior Vice President and Halka Incharge of Shiromani Akali Dal, Hoshiarpur, and placed him under house arrest.
Speaking to the media, Lali Bajwa alleged that the present Punjab government has imposed an undeclared emergency in the state. He said the sole purpose of the government is to defame the Akali leadership, implicate them in false cases, arrest them, and weaken the Shiromani Akali Dal.
He further stated that just as the central government misuses its agencies, the Punjab government is also adopting a similar authoritarian approach. Bajwa emphasized that the dedicated and committed workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal will continue to fight for the Panth, Punjab, Punjabi language, and Punjabi identity. He reiterated that the Akali Dal will always stand firm under the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia against all injustices inflicted on Punjabis.
Lali Bajwa concluded by saying that in its glorious 105-year history, only the Shiromani Akali Dal has consistently stood by the Panth and the people of Punjab, and in the future as well, the party will bravely face every act of oppression with unity and determination.
