District Election Officer shares schedule for upcoming by-elections
Nomination process begins on July 14; voting to be held from 8 AM to 4 PM through ballot papers
Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/July 12 : Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Aashika Jain informed that the Punjab State Election Commission has announced the schedule for by-elections to fill vacant posts in Gram Panchayats. These by-elections will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM through ballot papers.
She stated that following the Gram Panchayat elections held on October 15, 2024, 4 Sarpanch and 151 Panch posts remained vacant in the Hoshiarpur district. These vacant posts will now be filled through the upcoming by-elections.
Aashika Jain explained that nomination papers can be filed from Monday, July 14 to Thursday, July 17, 2025, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the offices of the respective Returning Officers. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Friday, July 18, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is Saturday, July 19, 2025, by 3:00 PM.
She added that counting of votes will be carried out on the same day at the respective polling stations after the conclusion of voting. The final updated voter list was published on May 23, 2025.
The maximum election expenditure limit has been fixed at ₹40,000 for Sarpanch candidates and ₹30,000 for Panch candidates.
Aashika Jain appealed to all eligible voters of the district to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes and electing deserving representatives. She also assured that all necessary arrangements are being made by the administration to ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful, fair, and transparent manner.
