Liquor ban will remain in place on the entire day of counting of votes on 23 November
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Nov.19 : District Magistrate Komal Mittal, on the instructions of the Election Commission of India, has declared dry day in the Assembly constituency 044 Chabbewal and within 3 km radius of Chabbewal Assembly till 6 pm on 20 November and on the day of counting of votes on 23 November, and has imposed a complete ban on closing liquor shops and storing and selling liquor by any person. This order will also be fully applicable to hotels, restaurants, clubs and liquor premises where selling and drinking liquor is legally permitted.
The district magistrate, exercising powers under Section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, has issued orders prohibiting the sale, storage and serving of liquor at public places, hotels, restaurants, clubs and bars from 6 pm on November 18 to 6 pm on November 20 and on the entire day of counting of votes on November 23.
