Deputy Medical Commissioner Inspects De-Addiction

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha /Dec.9 : The De-Addiction Rehabilitation Center located in Fatehgarh, Hoshiarpur, has emerged as a remarkable model in combating substance abuse. Rehabilitation at this center goes beyond mere detoxification; it aims to reintegrate individuals into mainstream society by equipping them with sustainable livelihood skills.Today, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Seemar conducted an inspection of the facility, engaging with patients to understand their concerns and holding discussions with their family members, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of care provided.Dr. Swati highlighted that under the Punjab Government’s robust anti-drug campaign, the center imparts specialized training to foster self-reliance among patients. Training modules include salon services, cooking, gardening, alongside new skill sets like mobile repair and fabric dyeing. Patients receive certificates upon completion, enabling them to regain independence and rebuild their lives with dignity.The center is well-equipped with amenities such as a gymnasium, playground, library, prayer hall, music room, and comprehensive dining facilities. Recently, the state government sanctioned Rs 27 lakh for the establishment of a computer lab at Balival Ground, further enhancing the facility’s capabilities. Dr. Swati commended the cleanliness and management of the center and administered a pledge to the patients promising to avoid relapse into addiction.At present, the center accommodates 102 patients, supported by a dedicated team of 36 staff members including doctors, counselors, nurses, managerial staff, security personnel, and paramedics, providing round-the-clock care. The government ensures free provision of all medicines, diagnostic tests, and meals. Emergency ambulance services are available within ten minutes as needed.Family members lauded the center’s efforts, noting the attentive care their wards receive. Many reported significant improvements within three months of stay and expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Punjab Government for this commendable initiative.
