Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/12 july : To resolve issues of waterlogging and deteriorating roads during the monsoon season, large-scale development works worth ₹3.5 crores have been launched to strengthen the infrastructure of Dana Mandi Hoshiarpur.
MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal and MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa inaugurated the works in the presence of Market Committee Chairman Jaspal Singh Chechi. The projects include CC flooring of internal roads in the mandi and the upgrading of the decades-old water supply and sewerage systems.
MP Dr. Chabbewal stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, development activities across Punjab are progressing rapidly. He noted that the mandi area lies below the main road level, causing rainwater to accumulate and damage the roads, creating serious difficulties for farmers and commission agents. To address this, ₹249.94 lakhs have been sanctioned for cement concrete flooring of the mandi’s internal roads, which will begin soon and be completed within nine months.
Additionally, new pipelines will replace the outdated 65–70-year-old water supply lines. A further ₹102.54 lakhs will be spent on upgrading the water supply and sewerage systems, aiming to resolve persistent problems like waterlogging and leakage.
MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa added that the adjoining residential area’s park will also be beautified as part of the project. Responding to the demands of the commission agents, officials from Chandigarh have visited the site for a proposed shed extension, which will be built shortly.
He further announced that, until now, the area only had one police outpost, which was inadequate for the growing population. A new Industrial Police Station will now be established to strengthen law and order in the region.
On this occasion, Market Committee Chairman Jaspal Singh Chechi expressed gratitude to the MP and MLA and assured all commission agents and farmers that the development works would be carried out diligently.
