Khanna Pays Tribute on Dr. Mookerjee’s Death Anniversary
Hoshiarpur/ June 23 /Daljeet Ajnoha : Former BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, remembering his supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Speaking about Dr. Mookerjee’s life, Khanna said that he was wholly dedicated to the unity and integrity of India. He highlighted that despite Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India, Article 370 once gave it a separate flag and required a permit to enter the state.
In 1952, during a massive rally in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Mookerjee declared, “There will be only one Constitution and one flag in the entire nation including Jammu and Kashmir, or I will sacrifice my life for this cause.”
To fulfill this resolution, Dr. Mookerjee set out for Jammu and Kashmir in 1953 without a permit. Upon arrival, he was arrested, and on June 23, 1953, he died under mysterious circumstances in custody. His death shook the nation and led to the abolition of the permit system.
Dr. Mookerjee laid down his life for the slogan – “One Nation cannot have two Constitutions, two Prime Ministers, and two flags.”
Khanna said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled Dr. Mookerjee’s dream by abrogating Article 370 and 35A, thereby making Jammu and Kashmir a complete and inseparable part of India.
