District Magistrate issues orders to ensure peaceful and fair elections
Hoshiarpur / Daljit Ajnoha, July 26: District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain informed that the Punjab State Election Commission is conducting elections on July 27, 2025, to fill vacant positions of Sarpanches and Panches in various Gram Panchayats of Hoshiarpur district.
In this regard, as per Section 128 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, all campaigners, relatives, or any other outside supporters of the candidates must vacate the concerned constituency immediately after the end of the election campaign.
Exercising the powers vested under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 2023 (Section 183, Chapter XI-C), District Magistrate Ashika Jain issued an order stating that all persons who have come from outside to campaign in support of any candidate must leave the limits of the concerned Gram Panchayat area as soon as the campaign period ends.
This order shall come into effect immediately and will remain in force until July 27, 2025. The directive clearly mentions that it will not apply to civil administration, paramilitary forces, or uniformed police personnel.
To ensure strict compliance with this order, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, has been instructed to get community halls, dharamshalas, guest houses, restaurants, etc., in villages checked by officers under his jurisdiction and ensure that no outside individuals are allowed to stay or take shelter there.
Additionally, instructions have been issued to identify and list all outside persons so that the activities of non-voter individuals coming from outside the constituency can be monitored and any attempt to influence the election process can be prevented.
