SDM encourages recovering addicts to reconnect with mainstream society

Under the guidelines of the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, the District Administration Hoshiarpur organized a special event at the De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Hoshiarpur, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

SDM Hoshiarpur, Ms. Gursimranjit Kaur, participated as the chief guest and motivated the patients undergoing treatment at the centre. She stated that giving up drugs and making a fresh start is not only a sign of inner strength but also a major step toward fulfilling one’s responsibility to society.

The SDM interacted with the recovering addicts, boosted their morale, and encouraged them to begin a new chapter in life. She emphasized that overcoming addiction and re-establishing oneself as a responsible citizen in society is absolutely possible. She highlighted the importance of balance in life and appreciated the Punjab Government’s initiative “War Against Drugs,” shedding light on its scale and objectives. She said the government is determined to make the state drug-free and that every section of society must contribute to this mission.

The event featured several competitions such as badminton, table tennis, poster making, and musical chairs. Participants were honored with trophies and certificates for their enthusiastic involvement.

Additionally, students from Government College, Hoshiarpur, under the leadership of lecturer Ankur Sharma, presented a street play on the theme “War Against Drugs,” which was well-received and applauded by the audience.

A special anti-drug rally was also organized by the Health Department, in which youths and local residents participated in large numbers.

On this occasion, the chief guest also cut a cake to celebrate the completion of 10 years of the De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre.

District Social Security Officer Manpreet Singh expressed gratitude to all the guests, including Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Harbans Kaur, Dr. Mahima Minhas, and all staff members.

The program concluded with all attendees taking a collective pledge to build a drug-free society. Assistant Public Relations Officer Lokesh Kumar, DDRC Manager Nisha, counselors Prashant Adiya and Sandeep Kaur, and Surinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
