Free Treatment for All Victims Under ‘Farishta Scheme’: Deputy Commissioner
Hoshiarpur/ August 23/Daljeet Ajnoha : A tragic explosion involving an HP Petroleum LPG tanker on the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur road near Mandiala village late last night has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 21 others.
The incident occurred when the tanker, attempting an improper turn, collided with a vegetable-laden mahindra pickup, triggering a blast that also damaged nearby buildings.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain confirmed that all injured persons are receiving free treatment under the Punjab government’s “Farishte Scheme.” Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, MLA Bram Shankar Jimpa, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik visited the site to assess the situation and oversee rescue operations.
Under SSP Malik’s leadership, police teams from City, Sadar, Model Town, Purhiran, Chabbewal, and Garhdiwala stations promptly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue efforts. The injured were immediately rushed to Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital, with critical cases referred to other facilities. A specialized team of doctors from Amritsar Medical College has been deployed to assist at the civil hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Jain assured that the families of the deceased would receive compensation as per Punjab government norms, emphasizing that no lapses in treatment would be tolerated. To manage the severity of the incident, ambulances and fire tenders from Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Phagwara, and Adampur Air Force Station were mobilized, alongside the deployment of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
SSP Malik reported that a case has been registered under Sections 105 and 324(4) of Bhartiya Nyaay Samhita (2023) and a thorough investigation is underway.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar and SMO Dr. Kuldeep Singh stated that 23 patients were brought to Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital, of whom one was declared dead on arrival at Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur, while another died on the way to a private hospital. Currently, five patients are admitted to the civil hospital, 14 have been referred to other hospitals, and two have been discharged.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain urged the public to avoid going to the incident site and cooperate with the administration’s relief and rescue operations.
Both DC and SSP Malik described the incident as deeply tragic, reaffirming the government and district administration’s full support for the injured and affected families.
