Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s Abject Failure; Public Money Wasted on Potholes and Broken Roads: Pawan Dewa
Ludhiana, August 7: Former District Congress Committee President and ex-Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan, has once again criticized the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation over recurring incidents of road cave-ins during the monsoon season.
In a statement issued here, Dewan said that despite crores being spent on road construction and sewerage line installation, the lack of proper waterproofing and post-construction quality inspections has turned public infrastructure into death traps. He pointed out that in many parts of the city, roads become waterlogged or develop massive potholes within days of sewerage or pipeline work being completed.
This dangerous trend, he added, reflects deep-rooted corruption and apathy in execution and supervision. Dewan further stated that despite taxpayers’ money being spent, the Municipal Corporation fails to adhere to quality standards. He emphasized that such recurring incidents are not just infrastructural failures but pose a serious threat to public safety—on which municipal officials and political leaders must break their silence.
