Hoshiarpur/ June 17/Daljeet Ajnoha : In a significant and strategic success under the ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashiyan De Virudh’, the Hoshiarpur Police has achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a notorious criminal, Neeraj Kumar alias Ranjha, who was found in possession of three illegal firearms.
The arrest was announced during a press conference held at the District Police Headquarters, where Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hoshiarpur, Sandeep Kumar Malik, addressed the media. He disclosed that the operation was the result of coordinated intelligence and swift action by the police team, led by Dr. Mukesh Kumar, SP (D) Hoshiarpur, DSP Sukhninder Singh, and CIA In-charge Inspector Gurpreet Singh.
According to SSP Malik, the accused Neeraj Kumar alias Ranjha was under police surveillance due to his suspected links with criminal and drug trafficking networks. Upon receiving actionable inputs, a special team was constituted which successfully apprehended the suspect. During the arrest, the police recovered three illegal weapons, which were allegedly intended for use in criminal activities connected to drug trade and gang operations.
“This arrest is not an isolated incident but part of a much larger and focused campaign against organized crime and narcotics. Our objective is to cut off the roots of drug distribution and the criminal machinery that supports it,” SSP Malik stated. He affirmed that the Hoshiarpur Police remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens by maintaining zero tolerance toward drugs and illegal arms.
The SSP further informed that a detailed interrogation of the accused is underway, and more arrests are expected as investigations progress. Preliminary findings suggest that Ranjha may have ties to a wider interstate network involved in drug smuggling and arms trafficking.
The police are also examining possible connections to previously reported cases and are working on tracing the origins of the seized weapons. The recovered arms have been sent for forensic examination, and a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and IPC has been registered.
This successful operation is being seen as a morale booster for the law enforcement agencies in the region and a stern warning to those engaged in illegal drug and arms-related activities.
