Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha /Oct.25 : In memory of late Manjit Singh, former captain of the Indian football team and one of the country’s renowned footballers, a special award ceremony titled Manjit Memorial Annual Football Awards was held at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur. The initiative, launched by Manjit Singh’s family to recognize outstanding contributions in football, includes a total prize amount of ₹1 lakh distributed among players and coaches.Manjit Singh, a celebrated footballer from Kherarh Achharwal, had brought laurels to Punjab and the nation, winning several honors including the prestigious Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award from the Punjab Government. To commemorate his legacy, his family, under the leadership of S. Ravinder Singh Dhami, decided last year to annually reward football players and coaches who demonstrate exceptional performance in the sport.The second edition of the award ceremony was chaired by Arjuna Awardee footballer Gurdev Singh Gill, College Treasurer Virender Sharma, Principal Dr. Parvinder Singh, and S. Ravinder Singh Dhami. On this occasion, ten football players and four coaches from Punjab were felicitated with cash awards totaling ₹1 lakh.Coaches Harinder Sunny, Bandana Singh, Jhalman Singh, and Dalbir Singh were honored for their dedicated service in football training. Speaking at the event, Gurdev Singh Gill commended the family’s efforts in keeping the memory of Manjit Singh alive through this meaningful initiative. Principal Dr. Parvinder Singh extended a vote of thanks.Prominent attendees included football promoter Principal Jagmohan Singh, players Madan Lal and Gurdial Singh of Kaharpur, lecturers Saudagar Singh and Harbhajan Singh Ajnoha, Pawan Kumar, Prof. Raj Kumar, along with college staff and students.
