Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/August 25 : Every achievement in life is deeply rooted in the blessings and prayers of parents. A mother’s love and prayers give strength to her children to reach great heights. These sentiments were expressed by internationally renowned kabaddi referee Prof. Dr. Amrik Singh.
He said that the values of hard work, honesty, dedication, and determination imparted by parents become the foundation of success. Sharing his own journey, Dr. Amrik Singh recalled that during his school days, under the guidance of Baba Bohar Sarwan Singh (Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awardee), he represented in three Junior National Kabaddi Championships and also won a silver medal. During his college years, he secured second place in the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championship. Alongside, he also earned the titles of Mr. University and Mr. Punjab in bodybuilding.
After completing his Master’s in Physical Education and later his Doctorate, he joined Sant Prem Singh Khalsa College, Begowal, as an Assistant Professor in Physical Education. There, he not only helped the college team win top positions in Guru Nanak Dev University Championships multiple times but also trained many athletes in kabaddi and athletics who went on to shine at national and international levels. He served as an NSS Program Officer and NCC Captain, guiding cadets to earn B and C certificates, and even led the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, and Chandigarh NCC contingent at the TSC Camp in Delhi.
Dr. Amrik Singh officiated as referee in the World Kabaddi Cup, All India Police Games, and Punjab Government’s World Kabaddi Tournaments. Under the leadership of World Kabaddi Federation President Ashok Das, he was recognized as an outstanding referee in countries like England, New Zealand, Malaysia, Peru, and Italy. In June 2026, he served as the Coach of the England Kabaddi Team during the World Kabaddi Cup held in England, where the team won a historic silver medal.
Born in a humble family to late Sardar Joginder Singh (a government employee) and Surjit Kaur, Dr. Amrik Singh credited his parents’ blessings for his achievements. His elder brother Man Singh was a national-level bodybuilder and powerlifter who retired with honor from the postal department. Another brother served as a Colonel in the Indian Army and later as Deputy Director of Sainik Welfare, while his younger brother Prof. Ranjit Singh continues to serve in academia.
Currently, Dr. Amrik Singh is serving as Head of the Sports Department at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Kapurthala, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon. Recently, he returned after serving as Chief Technical Officer at the European Kabaddi Championship Cup held in Bergamo, Italy, from 19th to 20th July.
His international recognition was widely celebrated. National hockey player Ripudaman Kumar Singh, District Kabaddi Association President and State Awardee Lecturer Jaswinder Pal, General Secretary PTI Charanjit Singh, Youth Welfare Board President Rajeev Walia, International Coach Amarjit Dhami, Principal Anoop Vas, Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar, Dr. Daljit Singh Khaira, Prof. Kamal Gupta, Jaswant Singh (France), Kulwinder Singh (Germany), Kabaddi Coach Ram Singh, and Joginder Thal (USA) extended their congratulations.
Special greetings also came from Swarn Singh Gholia in Australia, who invited him to visit the country. President of the Italy Kabaddi Federation, Sukhmander Singh Johal, also praised Dr. Amrik Singh’s services for the European Kabaddi Championship as highly commendable and inspiring.
