Jalandhar / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 9 :
In a shocking case that has brought shame to human relationships, a heinous act of human trafficking was uncovered near the village of Chetivani, close to Jamsher. A young woman was allegedly sold by her own cousin brother to traffickers in Rajasthan, while he fled to Dubai with the money. The case was brought to light by the Punjab Kisan Union (Baghi) which played a crucial role in rescuing the victim and initiating legal action.
Sharing details in a press note, Punjab Kisan Union (Baghi)’s State General Secretary Gurdeep Singh Bhandal, Bohar Singh Hajara, and Dr. Sukhchain Singh revealed that a 35-year-old woman, referred to as Mansi (name changed), appeared in extremely poor condition at a Gurdwara Sahib in village Bhangani, Ferozepur district on May 23. She informed the Granthi Singh that some people were following her. When questioned, the men admitted they had bought her.
The victim was found with severe injuries, infested with maggots. Bhai Balwinder Singh, a resident of Bhangani, took her into his home, arranged medical treatment, and immediately called the police at 112. However, despite 13 days passing, the police had taken no action.
It was only after the victim’s sister Ramandeep, along with several social and farmers’ organizations under the leadership of Mahaveer Singh (District President, Ferozepur, PKU Baghi), reached village Valoor in Ferozepur that the truth came out. Investigations revealed that the accused woman, Paramjit Kaur, wife of Bittu, had a criminal history and was involved in a trafficking network. She allegedly bought girls, forced them into sex work, and later abused and tortured them, keeping them locked and starved.
Following the union’s complaint, police from Valoor arrested the accused. DSP Karan Sharma and SHO Gurmeet Singh of Kulgarhi Police Station took swift action, registering a case of human trafficking based on the victim’s statement. They assured further action under appropriate legal sections after the girl’s medical treatment.
Present during the intervention were Jalandhar District Urban President Avtar Singh Reru, Ferozepur leaders Sukhdev Singh Mahiaval, Gurdeep Singh Bagguwala, Gurpreet Singh Malluwal, Gurpal Singh, Paramjit Singh, Amritpal Singh, Rajinder Singh, Dr. Jagdev Singh, Kulwinder Singh, and Davinder Singh, among others.
