Villagers Protest Against Liquor Vend

Hoshiarpur/Oct 17/Daljeet Ajnoha : Villagers of Jaijon Doaba, located in the hilly border region adjoining Punjab, staged a strong protest demanding the immediate closure of a liquor vend operating in close proximity to religious sites and residential areas. The protest saw participation from several nearby village panchayats.According to information, the liquor vend situated near the Punjab border has sparked anger among locals. Jaijon Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Parveen Soni, Baddowal’s Rashpal Singh Pali, Gajjar’s Chaman Lal, Chakk Natha’s Kulwinder Kaur, Khanni’s Parvinder Kaur, Jhanjowal’s Sarbjit Kaur, Jandiala’s Mandeep Kaur, and representatives from the Rampur Sainia Panchayat — along with District Council Member Monica, Block Committee Member Nirmal Kaur, and other panchayat members including Renu Bala, Jaswinder Kaur Thind, Kuldeep Kaur, Somanath, Nisha, Krishan Chand, and Jyoti Devi — collectively voiced serious objections to the liquor vend.They alleged that the outlet’s location near a Shiv Mandir and a Gurdwara Sahib constitutes a violation of legal norms and causes inconvenience to residents. The panchayat members further complained that people often consume liquor in the vicinity, leading to brawls and abusive behavior, thereby disturbing the area’s peace and sanctity.The villagers also accused unidentified persons posing as excise officials of harassing travelers, checking their bags and vehicles, and misbehaving with them under false pretenses.In light of these grievances, the panchayat representatives submitted a memorandum addressed to Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar, MLA Dr. Ishank kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur through the local police post in-charge, ASI Manna Singh, demanding immediate closure of the liquor vend and stringent legal action against fake excise personnel.
