SBS Nagar/Daljeet Ajnoha/Nov.05 : The ongoing War Against Drugs campaign launched across Punjab has shown highly positive results in Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district, successfully curbing both narcotics and crime, according to SP (Investigation) Sarabjit Singh Bahia.Speaking to senior correspondent Daljeet Ajnoha, SP Bahia said that under the campaign, the SBS Nagar Police registered 1,001 FIRs and arrested 1,243 drug peddlers. During these operations, police recovered a significant quantity of narcotics and drug money amounting to ₹5,10,200. The recovered substances included 3.896 kg of heroin, 36.710 kg of opium, 234.280 kg of Poppy husk, 168 intoxicant injections, 12,242 intoxicant capsules and tablets, 7 grams of charas, and 5.261 kg of ganja.SP Bahia credited the success of the campaign to the efforts of police teams working diligently under the directions of senior officers, as well as active cooperation from local villagers, community leaders, and residents. He emphasized that to eradicate social evils like drug abuse, collective participation from all sections of society is necessary.Highlighting the origin of recent extortion and organized crime incidents in Punjab, SP Bahia pointed out that many such crimes have roots abroad. He explained that certain youth living overseas, who have never done hard work and rely on their parents’ money, often misguide youngsters back home into committing such acts for easy money.Addressing cybercrime, the SP noted an alarming rise in online frauds and scams carried out by technically trained individuals. He urged citizens to stay alert and avoid responding to unsolicited video calls from unknown numbers, as these are often exploited by cybercriminals to execute frauds within seconds. The Yudha Nashian virudh campaign was launched by the Punjab Government on March 1, 2025, with strict directives from the Director General of Police and senior officials to curb the growing menace of narcotics. The initiative not only targets drug peddlers but also aims to rehabilitate addicts willing to reform. Those who voluntarily quit drugs and are certified fit by de-addiction centers and the police are helped to reintegrate into society, often with the support of their families and local employment opportunities.SP Bahia reiterated that with sustained community and police collaboration, a drug-free and crime-free Punjab is within reach.
