Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/August 26 : The 77th Annual Guga Jahir Veer Fair was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at Village Ajnoha in District Hoshiarpur, under the leadership of Sewadar Baba Harkirat Singh Gorkha, with the participation of the local sangat.
The celebrations began with the distribution of langar (community feast), followed by the traditional Chhijh Wrestling Tournament. As many as 30 wrestlers participated in the event. In the main bout, wrestler Surmu emerged victorious by defeating Shera from Amritsar.
The winning wrestler was honoured with a trophy, turban (patka), and a cash prize of ₹5100, while the runner-up received a trophy along with a cash prize of ₹3100.
Speaking on the occasion, Sewadar Baba Harkirat Singh Gorkha shared that before the fair, his team and fellow devotees organize karas (devotional processions) across the village in the name of Guga Jahir Veer Ji. Families who make vows (mannat) arrange tea or langar as part of the tradition, after which the devotees sing hymns in praise of Guga Jahir Veer Ji, partake of the langar, and then organize the annual fair with continuous community service and wrestling competitions.
Several prominent personalities attended the event, including Subedar Pyara Singh, Satnam Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gyan Singh, Jagdish Singh (Mahilpur), Ranjit Singh (Mahilpur), Tarsem Diwana (Senior Journalist, Hoshiarpur), Jagdeep Singh (Phagwara), Shinda Doroli, Harnek Singh (Neku Ajnoha), Sukhwinder Singh, Raja Ajnoha, Labi Ajnoha, Makkhan Singh, Gora (Satnam Blood Bank, Hoshiarpur), Satveer Saini, Raja Hans, Rishu Adia, Salim (Sarpanch), Monu (Haryana), Ghulu Pehalwan, Deepa (Sarpanch), Happy Tajowal, Davinder Singh, Suresh (Sarpanch Shergarh), Amrit Gill, Deepu Adia, Mohit Atwal, Sheel (Haryana), Laddi, Kamal, Vishu, Shubham, Ajay Rana, Raman Rana, Pawan Badhen, and Monu, among others.
Additionally, village panchayat members including Ranjit Singh, Inderjit Singh, Harvinder Singh Khalsa, Nambardar Ashok Kumar Rana, Armonder Singh, Mahinder Singh Badhen, Sarpanch Rajwinder Kaur, and Sarpanch Deepa (Nangal Thandal) were also present.
