Local residents laud Punjab government’s action against drug peddling
Hoshiarpur/June 25/Daljeet Ajnoha : Under the ‘Yuddh Nashiyan Viruddh’ campaign launched by the Punjab government to eradicate drug peddling and remove illegal encroachments done by drug peddlers, Hoshiarpur Police in collaboration with local civil administration today demolished an unauthorized construction near Panj Peepli Mandir in Mohalla Bahadurpur of the city. This illegal construction was done by a person who has links with drug trade and it was demolished on the orders of civil administration.
Giving more information in this regard, SSP Hoshiarpur Sandeep Kumar Malik said that the action was taken on the request of Municipal Corporation, Hoshiarpur, which needed police assistance to demolish this illegal construction. This action was taken against Mandeep Singh alias Manu, against whom 9 FIRs are registered and he is currently in jail. He said that most of the cases registered against Mandeep are related to NDPS.
He reiterated that on the instructions of the Punjab Government, Hoshiarpur Police will continue to take action against drugs and illegal possession. He appealed to the people to inform the police about such illegal activities. He assured that immediate and strict action will be taken against the culprits. He warned the drug smugglers to either leave drug smuggling and do some other work, or be ready for the strictest action.
He said that the local people were very troubled by these smugglers, for which they have welcomed this action of the Punjab Government. People said that they welcome these efforts being made by the Punjab Government to end drug abuse in the state.
