Rangla Punjab Promise Betrayed, AAP

Advocate Ranjit Kumar, Congress in-charge for Chabewal, today accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing on all fronts and turning Punjab into a police state. Speaking at a press conference, he said the government had collapsed on its promises under the slogan of “Rangla Punjab” and “change”, and was using police force daily to suppress unemployed youth, contract and temporary workers, labourers and sanitation workers instead of addressing their demands.
He alleged that instead of resolving the issues of unemployed youth, temporary employees and contract workers and clearing pending PDA (pending payables/dues), the government was subjecting protesting job-seekers, employees and sanitation staff to pressure and violence through the police. He cited recent incidents of police brutality — first against linemen in Patiala, then against MGNREGA workers, and most recently, a lathi-charge on sanitation workers — as evidence of the Bhagwant Mann administration’s obstinate and authoritarian tendency.
“Putting Baba Sahib’s portrait in government offices while subjecting Dalits, mothers and sisters to assault and harassment exposes the double-faced character of AAP: on one hand preaching respect for women and on the other ordering baton charges against our mothers and sisters,” he said, calling the actions shameful and condemnable.
Advocate Ranjit Kumar demanded stringent action against the culpable police personnel and officers and urged immediate assistance and regularisation of the affected women. He insisted that not only should the victims be provided help, but their legitimate demands must also be accepted and they should be made permanent employees.
