Anti-Atrocity Rally to Be Held in Chabbewal on August 23
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/July 10 : A special meeting of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chabbewal constituency was held at the Community Hall under the chairmanship of constituency in-charge Advocate Palwinder Mana and constituency president Yash Bhatti. BSP Punjab president and former Rajya Sabha member Dr. Avtar Singh Kareempuri attended as the chief guest, while BSP Punjab in-charge Gurnam Chaudhary and state general secretary Contractor Bhagwan Das Sidhu were present as special guests.
On the occasion, Dr. Kareempuri strongly criticized the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign, questioning, “If this campaign is successful, why are mothers still losing their sons to chitta every single day in Punjab?” He said the campaign has completely failed as there has been no reduction in drug-related deaths. He alleged that the government has jailed around 30,000 youths—driven to drugs due to unemployment, inflation, and economic hardship—and demolished the homes of hundreds of addicts, yet not a single drug smuggler’s house has been razed.
Referring to a viral video from the village of Rudka Kalan in Phillaur constituency, showing small children in a primary school being forcibly given drugs, Kareempuri questioned why even after five days, the AAP, Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal remain silent on this serious matter. “Earlier, drugs were destroying the youth, but now they are being forcibly given even to primary school children,” he said.
Kareempuri alleged that the AAP government, like the previous Congress, Akali, and BJP governments, has failed to dismantle the drug mafia’s network, resulting in two lakh youths falling victim to chitta. He further said the so-called “education revolution” of the government has also failed because no education reform is possible without teachers, and in Punjab, 50% of teaching posts are vacant. He added, “AAP, Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP can give free electricity and wheat, but they cannot provide free education. If BSP comes to power, free education will be made compulsory.”
Kareempuri also alleged that in the villages of Harta, Mana, Barian, Thuana, and Mahindowal of Chabbewal constituency, people have suffered government atrocities. As a protest, the BSP will hold an anti-atrocity rally in Chabbewal on August 23 under the Punjab Sambhalo Campaign.
The meeting was attended by several BSP leaders and workers, including Punjab secretary Maninder Sherpuri, Sukhdev Bitta, BAMCEF district convener Joginder Pal Faglana, Advocate Dharminder Dadra, district president Daljit Rai, Madan Singh Bains, Master Hari Kishan, Rajesh Kitti, Nishan Chaudhary, Surjit Mahimmi, Engineer Satpal Bhardwaj, Inderjit Badhan, Harbans Singh, Subedar Harbhajan Singh Mana, Jagmohan Sajjna, Harjeet Laddi, Lal Chand Billa, Ramesh Patwari, Prem Singh Khalsa, Avtar Singh Bajakhana, Lahinbar Ram Jhammat, Dhani Ram, and hundreds of party workers.
