Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Nov.25 : Former Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood, in a press statement, accused the Congress and other opposition parties of opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to safeguard their existence and retain illegal votes of infiltrators and Bangladeshis.Sood alleged that parties such as Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, BSP, and Trinamool Congress had in the past secured electoral victories through unconstitutional means by enrolling unauthorized voters. He asserted that any ordinary Indian citizen, not aligned with any political outfit, would see nothing wrong with the SIR process. He further claimed that, anticipating defeat in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was opposing the SIR at any cost, which could create serious law and order challenges in the state.Terming the opposition’s attempt to link the alleged suicides of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with the SIR process as baseless, Sood said periodic revisions of electoral rolls have always been conducted, but no such incidents had ever been officially connected to them. Referring to the Bihar SIR exercise, he noted that thousands of BLOs participated, and around 450 were suspended for negligence, yet no case of suicide was reported.Sood added that the opposition parties were panicking over the people’s increasing support for the BJP due to its performance. He said their earlier attempts to raise issues such as vote theft and threats to the Constitution had failed to resonate with the public, just as their ongoing opposition to the SIR would not gain acceptance either.
