Hoshiarpur/Mar 17/Daljeet Ajnoha : Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Tikshan Sood, in a press note issued today, stated that recent rains, strong winds, and hailstorms at various places in Punjab have caused extensive damage to farmers’ crops. Fully ripened wheat crops have been flattened to the ground, and vegetable crops have also suffered heavy losses. He added that last year’s devastating floods during the monsoon season inflicted massive losses on farmers. Although the government made grand promises in response, no compensation has been provided yet for those damages. The government must now take the current losses seriously and fully compensate the farmers.Sood demanded that the government immediately issue orders for a girdawari (crop damage assessment) of the affected areas and provide time-bound compensation to the farmers for their losses.
