The 2nd Senior Men’s National Tapeball Cricket Championship was inaugurated at Akal International Cricket Stadium under the leadership of Managing Secretary Sukhdeep Singh Bajwa. Teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab took part in the championship.
The opening ceremony was attended by chief guest S. Sukhdev Singh Judge, Managing Director of Akal Group of Institutions, who formally declared the tournament open. He encouraged the players and said that victory and defeat are not what truly matter; what matters is the spirit of participation and discipline.
In his remarks, Judge said that sport can help steer young people away from drugs and that it is the moral duty of society to channel youth toward games and positive activities. He added that unity, cooperation, and a strong sporting culture can help keep the younger generation away from addiction.
Guest of honour S. Gurvinder Singh Virk, Naib Tehsildar, also attended the event and assured full support for the promotion and development of tapeball cricket. He thanked the Tapeball Federation of India for bringing a national-level event to Punjab, giving local youth an opportunity to showcase their talent.
TFI President Ashok Singh Jamwal and General Secretary Rajeev Walia, who is also the Chairman of the Youth Sports Welfare Board, delivered the welcome address. Jamwal said that every section of society contributes to nation-building and that sports play a vital role in character building and discipline.
Walia thanked the guests and said the championship was possible because of their support. He urged the youth to excel in sports, make their parents and country proud, and said that such competitions help bring young people from the streets to stadiums.
According to the event report, Jammu and Kashmir won the first match, Punjab won the second, and Jammu and Kashmir defeated Rajasthan in the third match.
