Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha/May 2 : Hon’ble Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has issued directives to universities and other institutions across the state to include a column for eye donation in admission forms and ID cards.
In a significant push for awareness, Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society, Hoshiarpur, led by President J.B. Bahal, met former Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna. They presented him with a request letter addressed to the Governor, urging the addition of an eye donation option in forms for students in Punjab’s universities and institutions. The Governor promptly approved the request and instructed the institutions to fully cooperate with the society by adding the column in line with regulations. This step aims to provide light to those suffering from blindness and help eradicate blindness from the country.
On the occasion, Chairman and prominent social worker Sanjeev Arora thanked Khanna and presented a copy of the Governor’s letter sent to the institutions. Arora revealed that the society has signed MoUs with various colleges in Punjab to jointly promote eye donation. He noted that Khanna has long supported the society, contributing significantly to the recent amendment adding an organ donation column in new and renewed driving licences.
Those present included Principal D.K. Sharma, Prof. Rajiv Sharma, Ashwani Kumar Datta, A.S. Kang, Surinderpal Diwan, Madan Lal Mahajan, and others.
