Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 5 : Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal, the District Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in Hoshiarpur observed World Environment Day. On the occasion, saplings were planted in the presence of Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar and Medical Officer In-Charge of the Centre, Dr. Jasleen Kaur Sandhu.
Also present were Manager Nisha Rani; counsellors Prashant, Sandeep Kumari and Pooja Rani; staff nurses Rajat Bhardwaj and Rajvinder Kaur; Amandeep Tiwari; Mandeep Singh; Dr. Shipra (Hospital Administration); and other staff members.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar said World Environment Day inspires us to recognise the importance of nature and to accept our responsibilities in protecting it. Clean air, pure water, green trees and a healthy environment are the foundation of our lives. She urged everyone to pledge to plant more trees, reduce the use of plastic, conserve water and energy, and maintain cleanliness and safety in their surroundings. She added that even small efforts can make a big contribution to environmental protection and that a green environment is the cornerstone of a happy and secure future.
Medical Officer In-Charge Dr. Jasleen Kaur said the theme for World Environment Day 2026 — “Climate Action – For Climate, For Our Future” — calls on people to confront the challenges of climate change and to work together to safeguard natural resources. She said the day reminds us that the Earth is our shared heritage and urged citizens to resolve to plant trees, conserve water, curb plastic use and adopt eco-friendly lifestyles. Dr. Jasleen added that tackling climate change is not the job of governments alone but requires small actions from every individual, and that each green step taken today will lay the foundation for a safer and more beautiful future for coming generations.
