Intensified Pulse Polio Drive to

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha /June 19 : Under instructions from the Punjab Health Department and led by Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal, an intensified Pulse Polio campaign will be conducted across the district on June 28, 29 and 30, 2026. Dr. Kamal said the campaign’s primary objective is to administer polio drops to every child aged 0–5 years to ensure complete protection against the disease.
Dr. Kamal warned that polio is a serious viral disease that can cause permanent disability in children. Although India has been declared polio-free, she stressed that maintaining this status requires rigorous implementation of every campaign. The district has set a target to vaccinate 1,26,186 children (0–5 years). She appealed to parents to take their children to the nearest polio booth and cooperate fully with health teams.
District Immunisation Officer Dr. Seema Garg said 799 polio booths will be set up across the district on the first day, including 753 fixed booths, 25 transit booths and 21 mobile teams. She added that on June 29 and 30 health teams will conduct door-to-door visits to vaccinate children who could not reach the booths on the first day.
Dr. Garg said block-level trainings are being held across all blocks by the district immunisation officer to finalise campaign preparations. These sessions provide health workers with detailed guidance and essential instructions for successful campaign implementation.
She said a total of 1,598 teams, 3,196 team members and 175 supervisors have been deployed for the campaign. These teams will carry out door-to-door visits covering approximately 3,52,602 households in the district. Special attention will be given to brick-kiln sites, slum clusters, bus stands and other vulnerable areas to ensure no child is left without the polio dose.
Dr. Garg added that the health department is conducting extensive public awareness activities about the Pulse Polio campaign. She urged residents to ensure that children aged 0–5 years receive the polio drops and to fully cooperate with health teams so that Hoshiarpur district remains polio-free.
