BLOs to conduct door-to-door enumeration

by

Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 22 :  Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer today briefed representatives of recognized political parties in the district about the second phase of Special Intensive Revision-2026 and appealed for full cooperation in the election process.
The District Election Officer said that from June 25 to July 24, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to have voters fill in enumeration forms. He urged booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties to fully cooperate with the BLOs during this exercise.
The Deputy Commissioner added that rationalisation of polling stations will also be completed by July 24. In line with Election Commission of India guidelines, proposals will be prepared and sent to the Commission to set up new polling stations where voter strength exceeds 1,200.
He asked political parties to promptly appoint BLA-1 at the assembly-constituency level and BLA-2 at the booth level and to share their details with the concerned electoral registration officers and the district election office. He also asked that the party-appointed BLA-1 and BLA-2 attend meetings convened by the election officers. He emphasized that cooperation from all political parties is crucial for the successful conduct of Special Intensive Revision-2026.
Following the meeting, and in line with Election Commission directives, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain conducted the June 2026 quarterly inspection of the district-level EVM warehouse in the presence of political party representatives. The warehouse was opened and its internal condition examined. During the inspection, all relevant records, logbooks and entry registers were also checked to ensure transparency.
The District Election Officer said the quarterly inspection of the EVM warehouse is a routine and necessary exercise aimed at maintaining the fairness, security and transparency of the electoral process. She expressed satisfaction that the warehouse arrangements in the district met the highest standards.
Political party representatives said the Election Commission’s initiative strengthens public confidence in the democratic process and helps dispel misconceptions about the impartiality of voting machines.
Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nidhi Kumud Bambah, Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Gurkanwal Singh; and party representatives Jai Ram (Aam Aadmi Party), Rajneesh Tandon (Indian National Congress), Bhushan Kumar Sharma (BJP), Madan Singh Bains (BSP), Gurmesh Singh (CPI-M), Jagtar Singh (Shiromani Akali Dal).
