Hoshiarpur Bar Association President Palwinder

Hoshiarpur/June 23/Daljeet Ajnoha : Advocate Palwinder Singh Ghuman, President of the Bar Association Hoshiarpur and senior Congress leader, launched a scathing attack on the Punjab Government, alleging that the state is gradually turning into a “police state” due to its failure to address key public issues.

Addressing media persons, Ghuman said that law and order has become one of the biggest concerns in Punjab. Incidents of crime, gang violence, drug trafficking, and insecurity have increased, causing widespread concern among citizens. He also raised the issue of illegal mining, alleging that despite repeated claims by the government, illegal mining activities continue unabated in various parts of the state.

“The government appears to be more focused on publicity and advertisements rather than the welfare of the people. Huge amounts of public money are being spent on self-promotion while basic issues affecting common citizens remain unresolved,” he said.

Ghuman further criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to fulfill several of its promises. He pointed out that Punjab government employees are still awaiting their pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears for nearly three years. “The employees who serve the state diligently are being denied their legitimate dues, reflecting the government’s poor financial management,” he remarked.

Expressing concern over Punjab’s financial condition, Ghuman stated that the state’s debt has approached nearly ₹5 lakh crore, placing a massive burden on future generations. He alleged that despite promises of financial discipline and transparency, the government’s borrowing continues to rise.

The senior Congress leader also accused the government of abandoning its commitment to end VIP culture. “The AAP leadership came to power promising to eliminate VIP culture and provide clean governance. However, today many of its leaders and ministers have become bigger VIPs than those they once criticized,” he said.

Ghuman further alleged that issues such as unemployment, industrial slowdown, rising migration of youth, deteriorating civic infrastructure, and the continuing drug menace have not received the attention they deserve from the government.

He urged the Punjab Government to focus on governance, public welfare, employment generation, law and order, and financial stability instead of relying on publicity campaigns. He said the people of Punjab are expecting accountability, transparency, and tangible development rather than slogans and advertisements.
