Hoshiarpur /Daljeet Ajnoha/July 23 : Under the “War Against Drugs”(“(Yudh Nashian virudh) campaign led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make the state drug-free, a meeting of coordinators of the Drug De-addiction Front was held on Thursday at the District Administrative Complex. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik and reviewed the functioning of Village Defence Committees (VDCs) formed across the district.
Those present included Atin Agnihotri, in-charge of the Doaba zone of the De-addiction Front; urban district coordinator Kanchan Deol; rural district coordinator Dr Mukesh Kanda; vice district coordinators Baljeet and Manjinder Singh Rinku; and assembly coordinators.
During the meeting, officials discussed in detail the roles, responsibilities and directives issued to the Village Defence Committees. Office-bearers of the De-addiction Front shared suggestions to make the campaign more effective. The district administration also honoured VDCs that have performed exceptionally.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain directed the district police and health department to ensure coordinated and effective action. She emphasised that while strict action against drug peddlers is essential, timely treatment and rehabilitation of those addicted is equally important. She said the district is running de-addiction and rehabilitation centres where affected persons receive treatment and reintegration support.
SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said feedback from VDCs sent through the De-addiction app is being acted upon continuously. He appealed to all coordinators and committee members to remain vigilant in their areas and immediately inform the police about any reports of drug sale or trafficking, so that combined efforts of the administration and the public can rid Punjab of the drug menace.
The Doaba coordinator of the De-addiction Front issued directives to district and assembly coordinators during the meeting. Officials made it clear that VDCs not playing an active role in the campaign will be replaced without delay by more proactive members.
Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Rakesh Kumar Meena, Municipal Commissioner Jyoti Bala Mattu, Assistant Commissioner (General) Sumit Muddh, District Development and Panchayat Officer Sandeep Singh, all DSPs of the district and other administrative officers.
