Rotary Club Midtown Achieves Milestone, 1,276

— In a remarkable humanitarian achievement, Rotary Club Hoshiarpur Midtown has completed free corneal transplants for 1,276 corneal blind patients to date, giving hundreds a renewed chance at life and vision.
The large-scale initiative drew critical support from doctors and Rotarians across India and abroad. The club expressed special gratitude to Dr. Rohit Gupta of Mohali, Dr. Amandeep Singh Arora of Jalandhar and Dr. Shakeen Singh of Amritsar for their selfless services; the three surgeons alone have restored sight to hundreds of patients.
International support came from Rotary Club Plano Metro, Texas, USA, which provided financial and technical assistance for the eye-care project. The club singled out International Chair Rotarian Sanjeev Khanna for his instrumental role in forging the partnership between the two countries’ Rotary clubs.
Emotional Patch-Removal Ceremony for Three Patients
As part of the campaign, Dr. Amandeep Singh Arora performed operations on three corneal blind patients whose eye bandages were removed in a moving ceremony. Immediate Past District Governor Rotarian Rohit Oberoi was the chief guest and personally unveiled the bandages.
As the patients first glimpsed the world, the hall erupted in applause and tears of joy. Dr. Arora said these individuals had lived in darkness for years due to severe corneal disease and can now look forward to a normal life following the surgeries.
Project Chairman’s Message
Project chairman Rtn. Manoj Ohri said, “Giving sight to one person is giving new life to an entire family. The figure of 1,276 transplants fills us with pride, but our goal is higher. With the support of doctors, donors and international partners, we aim to help more than 2,000 patients in the coming period.”
Rtn. Rohit Oberoi praised the club’s team, calling such service projects inspirational for the community. He urged people to pledge eye donation to address the shortage of corneas.
The event was attended by Rotary Club office-bearers, the medical team, patients’ relatives and city dignitaries. The ceremony concluded with tributes to the martyrs and eye donors whose contributions made the campaign possible.
