Nalkhera’s Maa Baglamukhi Temple:

Daljeet Ajnoha / Nalkhera, Madhya Pradesh:/Sept.30 : Situated on the banks of the Lakhunder River in Nalkhera, Madhya Pradesh, the Maa Baglamukhi Temple is regarded as one of the important centres of worship dedicated to Maa Baglamukhi. The Goddess is worshipped as the eighth Mahavidya among the ten Mahavidyas, and the temple has a long-standing tradition of devotion, spiritual practices and religious rituals.
In a special conversation with Senior Correspondent Daljit Ajnoha, Chief Priest Manohar Das Pandey spoke about the temple’s history, traditions and religious significance.
According to religious tradition, the temple is associated with the Dwapar Yuga and the Mahabharata period. It is believed that Maharaja Yudhishthira worshipped Maa Baglamukhi here on the guidance of Lord Krishna, seeking blessings for victory. The idol of the Goddess is also traditionally regarded as Swayambhu, or self-manifested.
The temple’s location on the banks of the Lakhunder River adds to its spiritual atmosphere. Devotees from different parts of the country visit the temple, while practitioners associated with Shaiva and Shakta traditions also come here for spiritual practices and religious rituals.
A distinctive feature of the temple is the worship of Maa Baglamukhi along with Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati, a tradition associated with the divine Trishakti. The temple complex also includes places of worship dedicated to Lord Krishna, Lord Hanuman and Bhairav.
Maa Baglamukhi is also known as Peetambara Devi and is traditionally associated with the colour yellow. Her worship is commonly associated with protection, removal of obstacles and spiritual strength. Special havans and religious ceremonies are performed at the temple, particularly on important religious occasions.
Different accounts exist regarding the antiquity and history of the temple. Some sources associate its renovation with 1815, while its connection with the Dwapar Yuga remains primarily a matter of religious tradition and local belief rather than independently established historical fact.
Chief Priest Manohar Das Pandey said that the temple continues to remain a living centre of faith and spiritual practice. With its ancient traditions, peaceful river-side setting and distinctive worship of Maa Baglamukhi, Nalkheda Dham continues to attract devotees from across the country.
