Hoshiarpur/ May 9 /Daljeet Ajnoha/ In a significant development under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Hoshiarpur Police conducted a special raid to nab a notorious drug peddler. The situation turned tense when the accused opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, the police fired back, injuring the accused in the leg. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident was disclosed during a press conference held at the Hoshiarpur Police Lines by SP (D) Dr. Mukesh Kumar, who stated that the raid was carried out based on specific intelligence regarding drug-related activities. A dedicated police team was deployed to apprehend the suspect.
As the police approached the location, the accused suddenly opened fire on the raiding party. Initially, the police responded with warning shots in the air, but as the firing continued from the peddler’s side, they were forced to take action. A bullet hit the accused in the leg, following which he was captured and taken to the hospital for medical care.
Dr. Mukesh Kumar added that the identity of the accused is being kept confidential for now, but a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered from him. A thorough interrogation will be conducted once his condition stabilizes. The SP emphasized the police’s commitment to uprooting the drug menace from the region and assured that strict legal action would follow.
During the press meet, SP Dr. Kumar also discussed several other key issues concerning the law-and-order situation in the district and the police department’s ongoing efforts to maintain peace and public safety.
