District Election Officer holds meeting with representatives of political parties
Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/June 20 : Under the directions of the Election Commission of India, an important meeting was held today at the District Administrative Complex under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain with representatives of recognized political parties of the district. The main objective of the meeting was to ensure transparency in the preparation and revision process of the electoral rolls.
During the meeting, Ashika Jain informed that the Election Commission has provided all political parties with the facility to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for every polling station. She also shared detailed information about the process of appointing BLAs. It was explained that one BLA can be appointed for each polling station or part of the voter list, and the agent must be a registered voter of that area. The tenure of a BLA remains valid until their appointment is revoked or they are no longer a voter of that area.
The Deputy Commissioner clarified that any individual working in a government, semi-government, or public sector enterprise is not eligible to become a BLA. BLAs are required to coordinate with the BLO (Booth Level Officer) to prepare a list of deceased or relocated voters and submit it in the prescribed format. She emphasized that BLAs must be present during special camps, where BLOs, with their assistance, will record claims and objections.
Ashika Jain further stated that if a political party does not appoint a BLA, it will not be allowed to submit bulk forms during the voter list revision process. Therefore, she appealed to all parties to immediately appoint their BLAs and send the report to the District Election Office and the concerned Electoral Registration Officer. She underlined that political parties play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the electoral rolls.
On this occasion, Tehsildar (Elections) Sarbjit Singh, Kanungo Deepak Kumar, and Rajneesh Tandon from the Indian National Congress were also present.
