BJP Delegation Led by Tikshan

Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/April 21 ‘:In a press note issued by former Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood, it was stated that a review of the draft voter lists for the elections revealed numerous irregularities. A team constituted by the BJP found that the ward boundaries notified on December 31, 2025, do not match the ward maps prepared by the Municipal Corporation (MC). As a result, hundreds of voters have been shifted from one ward to another erroneously.
The notification should have been taken as the basis for preparing the maps, Sood emphasized. He pointed out that under MC election rules, ward delimitation must ensure roughly equal population across all wards. However, the reality is starkly different—for instance, Ward No. 9 shows only 539 voters, while Ward No. 3 lists 5,296 voters, far exceeding it.
Sood further alleged that population counts were conducted by untrained, inexperienced staff, leading to discrepancies. The city’s voter count stood at 1,29,698 in 2024 but has dropped to 1,18,146 in 2026, even as the population has grown by around 7,500. Many voters listed in the assembly rolls appear in unrelated wards instead of their own. Most shockingly, voters from assembly constituency No. 136, which should fall under existing wards 35, 36, 37, and 39, are missing from these or any other wards.
The BJP leaders demanded the formation of a high-level committee to redraw ward maps strictly as per the delimitation notification, revise the voter lists accordingly, and meticulously verify and correct misplaced voters. Present on the occasion were BJP leaders including former Mayor Shiv Sood, Suresh Bhatia (former councillor and district general secretary), Vinod Parmar, Ashwini Ohri, Yashpal Sharma, Surinder Bhatti, Rajiv Mahajan, and Ashwani Gandhi.
