Phagwara /Daljeet Ajnoha/August 11 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a massive protest in Phagwara today against the Punjab Government’s ‘Land Pooling Policy’. The demonstration, led by former Union Minister Som Parkash and Anita Som Parkash, saw hundreds of BJP workers raising slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and marching from the Rest House to the SDM office.
Som Parkash alleged that the Land Pooling Act would destroy agriculture. He accused the government of planning to hand over more than 40,000 acres of fertile farmland—currently used for growing wheat, paddy, and vegetables—to private companies. According to him, this policy could lead to a severe food crisis in the future.
BJP leaders declared that their struggle would continue until the policy is completely withdrawn, stressing that the issue is not just about land but also about the future of coming generations. They announced plans to go village-to-village to raise awareness among farmers about the dangers of this policy and to mobilize them for collective resistance.
They further alleged that through this scheme, the AAP government is attempting to hand over farmers’ land to land mafias through the back door, which they said is completely unacceptable. The BJP reaffirmed that it stands firmly with farmers like a rock.
Those present at the protest included Avtar Singh Mand, Rajeev Pahwa, Arun Khosla, Rakesh Duggal, Paramjit Singh Chachoki, Sonu Rawalpindi, Gagan Soni, Dinesh Duggal, Jaswinder Kaur, Sangeeta, Veva, Bholi Peeparangi, Maninder Shivpuri, Sabi Chak Hakim, Nikhil Gupta, Ranjit Pabla, Veeraram Baljot, Amrik Tibbi, Raju Chahal, Naresh Kotarani, Shalu Chopra, Rampal Shivpuri, Chandra Rekha Nikki, Ramesh Lal, Surjit Pandwa, Chandresh Kaul, Vikram Kaul, Rajinder Dabri, and several other BJP supporters.
