Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Oct.15 : Under the guidance of Jaswant Singh Zafar, Director of the Department of Languages, Punjab, Patiala, and the leadership of the District Language Office, Hoshiarpur, a district-level quiz competition was enthusiastically organized at Government Senior Secondary Smart School (Girls), Railway Mandi, Hoshiarpur. Students from various schools and colleges across the district participated in three categories — ‘O’ group (classes 6 to 8), ‘A’ group (classes 9 to 12), and ‘E’ group (graduation level).Addressing the gathering, Research Officer Dr. Jaswant Rai said that such competitions, conducted by the Department of Languages, play a vital role in deepening students’ connection with Punjabi literature, culture, language, grammar, geography, and religious heritage. He also shared details about other educational and cultural initiatives of the department.Presiding over the event, Principal Rajan Arora congratulated the participants and emphasized the importance of such contests in strengthening ties with cultural heritage. He encouraged students to continue participating actively in similar programs in the future.In the ‘O’ group, Jabaraj Singh (GMA School), Kishunk (Sandal Woodland Overseas School), and Peehu (SD Girls School) secured the first, second, and third positions respectively. In the ‘A’ group, Shivani Kaur (GMA School), Gurpreet Kaur (Secondary School Kotla Naudh Singh), and Payal (Secondary School Kharkan) emerged winners. In the ‘E’ group, Mandeep Kaur (Government College Talwara), Muskan, and Manpreet Kaur (Dasmesh Girls College, Mukerian) bagged the top three positions.The winners received cash prizes of ₹1000, ₹750, and ₹500 along with certificates of merit. On behalf of the Department of Languages, Principal Rajan Arora, Lecturer Sanjeev Arora, Varinder Nimana, Jaswinder Singh, Surjit Singh, and Dr. Ranjit Singh (Head, Department of History, Government College Hoshiarpur) were honored with book sets for their contribution. The event was compered by Master Jaswinder Singh.Teachers and students from several schools including Birender Singh, Lal Singh, Babita Rani, Veena Kumari, Manjit Arora, Bhupinder Kaur, Shivani Sharma, Jasvir Kaur, and Pushpa Rani also attended the program, making it a vibrant celebration of learning and language.
