Hoshiarpur / Daljeet Ajnoha/May 15 : Social-awareness organization Savera has urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to immediately regularize employees working in government departments on outsourcing, contract and temporary bases. The group said that only when employees have job security can they work with a sense of dedication. The government can deliver good governance only when the futures of the employees who play a key role in improving the system are secure, the organization added.
Savera office-bearers Dr. Ajay Bagga, Harish Saini, Dr. Sardool Singh and Dr. Avnish Ohri said in a statement that public services form the backbone of welfare. Government departments cannot function effectively while the people who work in them live with insecurity about their future, they said.
They noted that temporary appointees perform the same duties as permanent staff but do not receive job security, pensions or equal pay for equal work. This creates a dual system within government institutions that lowers morale and weakens service quality. The leaders said contract employees live in constant fear of sudden dismissal and exploitation. Many workers remain deprived of promotion and stability despite years of experience and competence.
When these employees strike to demand their rights, they are labeled as troublemakers undermining work rather than as whistleblowers highlighting institutional shortcomings, the statement said. Savera convener Dr. Ajay Bagga demanded that from now on all appointments in government services be made regular and permanent from day one.
